November 2008 President's newsletter

Clubs Queensland’s Smile for a Child foundation is raising money for three children charities. As one of many members of Clubs Queensland, Tin Can Bay Country Club is contributing to the foundations success by running various activities to raise funds.

Wobblers (identifying tags with your name written on them) can be purchased and will be placed above the bar area with those already there.

A night to entice those of us who think we know everything, as well as those just ready for a fun night out, will be attending the Trivia Night to be held on Thursday 13th November at the club. See our receptionist Leisa Eichman for more details on making up tables for the night. Leisa has also organised a golf fun day to be held on Friday 31st October. Other events will be taking place so keep an eye open for further details.

As well as our Smile for a Child activities we have two other charity days to be held during November. On Sunday 9th November all proceeds from the golf and bowls events, as well as the gigantic raffle, will be in aid of Tin Can Bay P-10 State School. The raffle will be run by the school P & C Association and all proceeds will be distributed through this organisation.

On Sunday 23rd November all proceeds from the golf and bowls events, as well as the raffle, will be in aid of Cooloola Medical Transport. Quite a number of residents of Tin Can Bay and Cooloola Cove have been recipients of this marvellous service so come to the raffle at the club to support them.

The golf greens and the top bowling green have now been cored and we await their return to previous condition in 4 to 6 weeks. This activity was completed most successfully by our dedicated greens staff and I would like to compliment them for the work done. The bottom bowls green will be cored at a later time.

The new sound system has been installed in the clubhouse and members and guests can now hear presentations and raffle calls with little interference.

The new Liquor Act will come into force on the 1st January, 2009 and the Board has decided that the club will not be applying for any additional trading hours. Liquor trading will be possible during the hours of 10am to midnight, with the club having the right to shorten those hours, and gaming machines will be available during our liquor trading hours. These hours appear to be the standard being applied to most bowls and golf clubs.

The run of the giant-killers, Tin Can Bay Country Club men’s bowls pennant team, unfortunately came to a halt when they played Coolum for the right to entry into the last eight in the state. Hard luck but you did the club proud.

The golf and bowls fun day played in mid October was a huge success with almost 80 sportsmen and sportswomen taking part. Barry and Ann Hudson and their helpers put in a “big” day to make sure everyone had an enjoyable day and all competitors would like to thank them for their effort.

The Tin Can Bay Country Club Junior Golf Carnival will be held on Sunday 2nd November and will give you the chance to see the up and coming champions of tomorrow.

The bowls presentation night is to be held on Friday 12th December with the golf presentation on Saturday 13th December.

Melbourne Cup Day Tuesday 4th November will again be celebrated at the Tin Can Bay Country Club with our own special races and loads of giveaways. Make sure you book early and organise a table for the big races.

This month’s prize of a dishwasher setting will have been won by the time you are reading this newsletter. The November monthly prize will be a package of whitegoods. You must be in attendance at the end of month draw (last Sunday of the month 30th November) to win the prize. The prizes for December will be $2,000 cash – to be given away on Sunday 21st December in time for Christmas cheer.

The Christmas Ham promotion will start on Monday 17th November and will run until Sunday 14th December to give members time to decide whether they need to purchase one or not. The hams will be distributed on Thursday 18th December. This year the hams will be slightly smaller but there will be more of them to give away so that more members will benefit.

Have a great November and remember Christmas is not that far away.

See you at the T.C.B. Country Club.
Stephen Wallis.
