July 2009 President's newsletter

The kids are on holidays and won’t be back at school until Monday 13th July (as long as it isn’t a pupil free day). The southerners are visiting us to get away from their colder climate. The rain is becoming a nuisance for our intrepid sports people. The end of the financial year has arrived. It’s winter.

Trading. Trading in most areas was slightly up in May on last years figures but expenses also increased giving us only a slight increase in overall profit. Further spending on the upkeep and improvement to the clubhouse and sporting areas will see this years figures similar to last years figures.

Membership fees are now due. One months grace is given for the payment of membership fees. Those members who play golf or bowls MUST have their fees paid before they play in the new financial year. If you have not received a renewal notice please contact reception at the club.

Sport. The Mitre 10 bowls & golf fun/championship day was held on the Sunday of the June long weekend. All the participants enjoyed the day and we expect to run the event again next year.

The Veteran Mens golf championship was finally completed when the rain allowed with two rounds in the same week. Congratulations to the winners who persevered throughout.

The ladies bowls pennant team have commenced their season and the mens bowls pennant team are about to start (had them the wrong way around last newsletter). Hopefully we will be victorious.

In golf, June saw the start of the various championships, both mens and ladies, with more to be played during July. Hopefully the wet weather will stay away to allow these events to be completed. The course has been opened on a number of days recently but golf carts have had to be banned to save the course.

Developments. A new coffee machine has been purchased and I hope that all coffee lovers will appreciate the change from powdered to “real” milk. Unfortunately due to various costs the price of coffee had to be increased to $2 per cup (still cheaper than most).

The toilets in the clubhouse in the sports lounge are almost complete after being closed for about three weeks. The club would like to thank patrons for complying with our requests during this period.

The fourth buggy shed has now been completed and once again I will state that this will be the last for some time (didn’t work the last time – demand outstripped supply). We now have close to eighty buggy storage areas.

The LED sign at the front of the clubhouse should be installed shortly (weather permitting) - watch this space.

The on line golf booking system has been installed on our computer system and training has taken place for those officials who will be entering events. Further development of the internet system, an upgrade to our computer server and practice by those involved should allow for a start date in early August. Training sessions in how to use the touch screen will be held during July and instructions on how to use the internet system will be printed and distributed.

The golf course will be having further maintenance carried out with additional cart tracks, drainage to fairways and new tee markers.

Catering. The new club caterer will be opening for business on Thursday 2nd July. The menu has been added to our website www.tcbcc.com.au for your perusal (thanks to Steve Dickson). Again we would like to thank patrons for their understanding whilst the restaurant was closed between caterers.

Promotions. The members draw jackpot stood at $1,900 at the time of writing (excluding the regular $200 draw) - the last Friday of June. If it is not won then, to break in the new financial year, the first Friday of July will have a guaranteed $1,000 to be won. Similar to the last giveaway members will be drawn until the $1,000 is gone.

Our experiment of using the main bar area for the Trivia Night was quite successful with a large rollup to aid the Tin Can Bay P-10 State School trip to Canberra. The school received $1,000 towards these costs. So that the brain cells do not get overworked the next trivia night will be run as spring approaches. If you want to attend let Leisa at reception know of your interest.

The Tin Can Bay Fishing Club held their annual interclub competition over the three days of the June long weekend culminating in the weigh-in and presentation lunch at the Country Club. We hope that the local club was victorious and that they enjoyed the facilities we could offer.

The annual cycle race between Maryborough and Tin Can Bay was held during the month with the race this year ending in Tin Can Bay. The presentation of trophies and after race activities were hosted at the club.

See you at the T.C.B. Country Club.
Stephen Wallis.
President TCBCC.
