August 2009 President's newsletter
Our neighbourhood is never quiet. The swine flu is about and everyone is looking out for it, hoping they have the common garden variety. The grand opening of the Cooloola Cove shopping centre took place with all the dignitaries in attendance. Peace has been restored with the kids back at school.
Trading. The club has completed another financial year showing a small profit. The auditor has still to work on the figures but the club is trading better than a number of other enterprises. Controlled spending on the development and upkeep of the clubhouse and our sporting areas will continue.
Sport. An additional charity day has been included in the busy schedule for golfers and bowlers with the Angel Flight event to be held on Sunday 23rd August. This day should not be missed as it will be a lead-up to the lost arts heavy horse field day to be held on Saturday 3rd October at 81 Osbourne Road, Wallu. There is an indication that a majority of the prizes on this day will have a seafood flavour about them. The washed out golf charity day for the Ambulance and Rainbow Beach Surf Lifesaving Club is still to be decided.
The bowlers have been doing the club proud. The ladies bowls pennant teams were so unlucky with both teams running second by half a point in their respective competitions. Well done ladies and more to come next year. The mens bowls pennant team are still at the front of the division 1 competition with two rounds left to play at the time of writing. To win the competition for the third year in a row will create a legacy for future teams. The other mens bowls pennant team has had a number of losses in division 2 as a result of playing against the first teams of other clubs but they are still representing the club in a competitive manner.
The wet weather again caused cancellations of various golf events during July but the current fine crisp weather should see all events completed. The golf club have made a number of decisions regarding the playing of mens premier events during the year. The effects of these decisions are still being observed. The Tin Can Bay Mens Open 18 hole Championship will be held on 26th July and it is hoped that the local boys will bring home the trophy. The mens golf championships for the club for 72 holes will be held over two weekends during August. The best of luck to all competitors.
Developments. The toilets in the clubhouse in the sports lounge
are now completed and usage is back to normal. The ladies toilet at the bowls
greens end of the clubhouse will be upgraded in shortly with the minimum of
disruption for patrons.
The on line golf booking system is moving closer to completion with the touch
screen in the clubhouse being available for training purposes. The remote internet
option should be released shortly for members to trial from their home computer.
At this time a date has not been set for the system to be implemented and sufficient
time will be given to iron out most of the problems associated with usage.
Drainage across the 12th fairway was completed during the month with water pouring out of the agriculture pipe installed. Apparently the scallop shells used as the previous drainage had deteriorated to form a dam like obstruction instead of removing the excess dampness. After further testing of this new drainage other areas of the golf course will be upgraded to allow for a quicker recovery after rain. New pathways have been installed in the worst of the damp areas to allow for minimal damage to the course after rain.
Catering. The new club caterer has been an instant success with only positive comments from the patrons who have dined at the club. It appears that the wait for a new caterer was worthwhile and you are encouraged to come and try the delights in the restaurant. To see a copy of the menu go to our website at www.tcbcc.com.au
Promotions. July was month that the club gave money back to its patrons. Firstly the Friday night members draw saw a number of members leave the club with money in their pocket, the largest amount being the $700 that Mike Clay spun up. The week after saw six of our Sunday raffle attendees each taking home $100 of IGA vouchers to keep the kitchen cupboards full. The following Sunday was the $2000 giveaway, in conjunction with the raffle, with our lovable foreigner Franco doing the Toyota leap when he won $500. The next Sunday was the chance to win a share of the $500 from the raffle jackpot with lucky recipients spinning the 100 number wheel to get their share. It was certainly a big month for winning money.
Just another reminder that the next trivia night will be run as spring approaches
and if you want to be part of the fun night let Leisa at reception know of your
interest.
See you at the T.C.B. Country Club.
