April 2007 President's newsletter
Easter is almost upon us and there will be a number of visitors to our part of the world trying to relax and drain all the tension away.
The club will be closed on Good Friday (April 6th), but will be hosting the two day Golf Easter Carnival on Saturday and Sunday that should attract entrants from near and far. Later in the month we will be celebrating ANZAC Day (Wednesday 25th April with club not opening until 1pm) with our first Golf and Bowls charity day, all proceeds of the day and the raffle being donated to Legacy. The next charity day will be Sunday 6th May when the club will be supporting one of its new local charities the Cooloola Coast Medical Transport. A Golf and Bowls competition will be held, as usual, as well as the grand opening of the shades over the top bowling green. Mark it in your diary.
During March we saw the departure of long time residents and club stalwarts
Len and Lyn Wyhoon to the shores of Tasmania. Len is a past president of the
club as well as being highly involved with the local Lions Club. Many of you
will have been attended by Lyn in her role at the Medical Centre. We wish them
well.
Computer Web site. The club greatly appreciates the work, time
and expertise that Steve Dickson has contributed to the development of our new
web site. If you have access to a computer and the internet have a look at www.tcbcc.com.au
The site has all the appropriate information, both members and guests could
require, for membership, events and entertainment.
Fees. Due to the ever increasing costs of maintaining our sporting
venues at an acceptable level the fee structure for sporting and full members
has been increased for the 2007-08 year. Golf and Bowls members should review
the changes on their appropriate notice board. The rental fee for storage of
golf buggies has also increased. The new fees structure is still very competitive
compared to other options and we hope the minimal increases will not cause any
hardship.
Sport. The golf pennants competitions have only a few more
games left. Our teams have performed well (the Mens, Masters and Ladies) although
the victories have been hard to grab. The bowlers are eagerly awaiting their
challenge in the coming months.
Developments. The mechanized shade cover for the top bowling
green should be completed mid month. As mentioned previously the official opening
will take place on Sunday 6th May at noon. Boonooroo Bowls Club will be visiting
us on that day and the Cooloola Coast Medical Transport will be the beneficiary
of the charity day.
Changes to the golf course will be starting later this year as funds become
available. We are awaiting the upsurge in funds after the smoking bans and making
sure that we don’t overspend before this occurs. We hope that this is
only a short term delay.
The new colourbond fence surrounding our delivery area has been completed and
we can now hide our dirty washing. It definitely gives the club a better appearance
from Gympie – Tin Can Bay Road.
Promotions. The new Friday night members draw is proving popular.
You must swipe your membership card in the kiosk on Friday and then place the
Friday night members draw ticket into the white barrel next to the kiosk. One
ticket will be drawn from the barrel at some time between 7pm and 8pm (time
will vary so make sure you are at the club before 7pm). The member, whose ticket
is drawn, must be at the club when the ticket is drawn and will immediately
win $200. The member will also have a chance to win the jackpot, which starts
at $200 and increases by $100 each time it is not won, by spinning the jackpot
wheel.
See you at the T.C.B. Country Club.
Stephen Wallis.
President TCBCC.
